Organizing Tips - courtesy of Clutter-a-Go-Go

Sometimes getting organized involves not just getting rid of things you don't need but getting things you do need

Don't forget your car! It needs organizing too!

Must-Haves for Your Trunk

  • Spare tire
  • Jack
  • Lug wrench
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Flares
  • Spare fuses
  • Fan belt
  • Duct tape
  • Wrench
  • Screw driver
  • Work gloves
  • Utility knife
  • Empty gas can (Caution: Can must be brand new! Never store an empty, used gas can in your trunk. The fumes are extremely flammable!
  • A quart of oil
  • A blanket
  • A first-aid kit
Going to colder climates? Be sure to include:

  • Snow scraper
  • Lock de-icer
  • Snow chains
  • Extra blankets
  • Hats and gloves
Tip:
  • Keep a pair of heavy-duty scissors between the driver's and front passenger's seats - use it to cut a damaged seatbelt that refuses to release, or to deflate an inflated airbag
  • Check the status of your fist aid kit regularly, at least every 3 months. Replace missing items.
  • Use a medium-sized bin as your "errand box". Take it in the house each night, and fill it with items that need to be returned to the store, taken to the cleaners or repairman, packages to be mailed, etc. Then take it back to your car every morning. You now have everything you need for your errands, should you have the opportunity to do them. Even if you don't get a chance to run errands that day, bring the box back inside that night so that any other items can be added for the next day's activity.
